My Favorite Record Store: Graham Scala

Here’s what Graham Scala, member of Forensics and Souvenir’s Young America, had to say about his favorite:

“My favorite record store is without a doubt Aquarius in San Francisco.  I’ve never looked at their new arrivals list or perused their shelves without finding some off-the-wall shit that I may never have heard of before.  Whether it’s Tazmanian ambient drone, isolationist black metal psych-folk, or garage punk from some former Soviet country that no longer exists, they’ve got the nerdy weirder-than-thou thing on lock.”

My Favorite Record Store: Stephen Brodsky

Stephen Brodsky of CAVE IN shares about some record stores that mean something to him:

Newbury Comics in Salem, New Hampshire holds a special place in my heart. Me and my buddies from the old Methuen crew would BMX it all the way there from Mass just to hang. These days I’ll wander around the Harvard Square location for a while, followed by a trip to Twisted Village. Downstairs in that bunker-like basement of a shop, any remaining trace of modern pop culture residue from Newb’s is usually washed away by whatever’s spinning on their record player – from the obscure vocal acrobatics of howling banshees to cooking breakfast-sounds inside a submarine.”

My Favorite Record Store: Aaron Turner

The talented, multi-faceted Aaron Turner (member of Isis, Old Man Gloom, etc. and owner of Hydra Head Records) shares about some record stores he loves:

“I must confess bias: my current favorite indie record store would have to be Vacation Vinyl in Los Angeles. The fact that it is vinyl-centric has something to do with my love of the place… and the fact that I’m part owner might also have something to do with it.

“Personal bias aside, there’s another favorite record store that immediately comes to mind: Aquarius Records in San Francisco. The meticulously curated selection combined with fastidious staff written descriptions of almost everything they stock makes it an all around winner as far as I’m concerned. Whether I’m there in-person or on the receiving end of their weekly email lists, hardly a month goes by where I don’t make at least a few purchases from there. Many of my most important discoveries in the last few years have been a direct result of recommendations via Aquarius. A record nerd and his money are soon parted… especially at the adept hands of the geniuses at Aquarius…”
