The new album from Wolvhammer, Blackmarketeers of World War III, was released this past Tuesday by Init Records and despite being less than a week old, has already been showered with praise by some impressive press outlets! Here’s what some have had to say about this incredible debut:

“Reading the list of influences on Minneapolis’s Wolvhammer is very telling: ‘Norway, NOLA, Sweden, Oakland, Lemmy…’. It’s this kitchen sink mentality that makes [Blackmarketeers of World War III track] “Dawn Of The 4th” a fascinating listen; black metal collides with crust, doom, and many elements to create a unique cocktail of darkness.”
-Brooklyn Vegan

“The songs are memorable, with measured pacing that highlights actual riffs. The vocals are like rusty blades. This stuff is usually disposable — the world does not need another 7″ petroleum product — but Wolvhammer have that certain something that staying power requires. I’m not the type to fetishize demos, but I hear some raw power here.”
-Invisible Oranges

“This shit is raw, crusty and punk-as-fuck black metal. If you are unfortunate enough to be chilling in Minnesota, go check these fuckers out.”
-Chronic Youth

“Their neophyte status in the U.S. black metal scene doesn’t prevent them from making grim, life-ending, blood-chilling music inspired by Bathory, Celtic Frost and Motörhead. That, coupled with the band’s disdain for capitalism and authority, make Wolvhammer ripe for the picking for extreme metallers”.
-Noisecreep

“Blackened vocals over a somewhat punky, crusty music, with touches of death metal and a little bit of old school Scandinavian black metal are tossed together to form what these guys are doing. And it works.”
-Funeral Rain

Brooklyn Vegan is also currently offering a stream of the entire album, available here:

Today we are celebrating our one year anniversary and we would like to say a HUGE thank you to many of you… the stores who buy from us, the labels who had faith in us from the beginning to entrust us with your sales, the bands who continue to inspire us with their music, and the music fans around the world who support the DIY music community by actually purchasing the music we distribute. We couldn’t have made it to this point without you and for that we are truly grateful.

In the span of just one year we moved locations to Richmond, VA, have grown to a staff of 7 employees (soon to be 8), and increased our exclusive label roster to a total of 30; not to mention adding non-exclusives and merchandise to our ever-growing catalog. We are also expanding the services we offer and have grown new arms of the company: web development, PR, and licensing. Our goal is to continue to meet the needs of those within our indie music community that we are so proud to be an active part in.

Thank you and may there be many more years of business to come for all of us,
The Independent Label Collective

Having cut their teeth organizing the much-acclaimed annual Riot Fest, it was only natural to step into the world of releasing great music as well. With their first release, the Naked Raygun What Poor Gods We Do Make DVD/CD, Riot Fest Records were off to a great start. Since then, the label has continued to work with Naked Raygun for an ongoing 7″ single series spanning 2010, as well as issuing Chicago punk outfit Shot Baker’s great album Take Control… with a lot of cool stuff on the horizon too.

“My favorite record store is Celebrated Summer in Baltimore/Towson. There aren’t that many good things about Baltimore, but Celebrated Summer is the best thing.
